Dance with Human Rights

How better to end the first year of your new program "Sisanda Circles" than with the volunteer who started the program off in 2012!
We welcomed Zakiya Atkinson back to Cape Town and not only the Sisanda FunDaytion Team, but also the kids from Izandla Zethemba were delighted!

Zakiya's Dance Circle also held a special twist this year as the Dance / movement / drama sessions were linked to the topic "Human Rights". The participating 25 Youth from Izandla Zethemba reviewed literature, discussed performance works and engaged in discussions to grasp and dissect the thematic implications of the workshop. During the sessions the students were guided through formal dance and theatre techniques. Modern Dance, Improvisation, Character Analysis, and Narrative were the basis of the artistic activities.

A big Thank You also to the Claremont Congregational Church for offering us the use of their Church Hall - and of course to Knead Bakery for the delicious muffins!

The questionnaire we gave out at the end of this worthwhile event confirmed our collective wish: we all want Zakiya (and her mother Jacky) back in 2014!
