Uncle Paul's Christmas Party
On Wednesday the 25 November we hosted 30 very excited children from Westlake. Before we set off on our magical adventure, it was essential that we all looked the part! So, each child received a bright red Christmas hat to get into the festive cheer.
Upon arrival we were welcomed by our lovely and dedicated volunteers, who knew a thing or two about Uncle Paul's. Once everyone was paired, blankets and pillows were stowed, we set off up the hill to await the first treat for the evening - a tractor ride! When the tractor pulled in at the top of the hill, we were mesmerised by a giant castle and more mesmerising was the hay arena that had been built. This proved to be lots of fun with children and volunteers alike engaging in an epic hay battle!
It took some time to get all the excited nerves settled but once the Marching Band arrived, Uncle Paul meant business! He was accompanied by Noddy, Big Ears and Mr. Plod, who entertained the children and surprised them with a delicious ice cream treat. In no time, there were smiling, ice cream covered faces, desperate for more! Even though dessert was served first, dinner came soon after and that was enough to re-energise the kids for the next activity - Christmas Carols with a live performance from the resident pianist. We may not have been the most talented group of singers, but we certainly were the most enthusiastic!
But, the highlight of the evening by far was the arrival of the little fairy which meant that Father Christmas was on his way! And in no short time, he peered his head from above the chimney and popped out the other end to surprise the children with their own gifts. With each name being called, there was a roar of applause and a quick dash to hug Father Christmas and retrieve their presents - what an absolutely magical evening!
Thank you to Uncle Paul's Christmas Party in association with the Wynberg Rotaract for creating such a memorable evening.
