Sisanda FunDaytion and an excited group of 5-9 year old boys and girls from the Vrygrond community were busy kicking off this year's festive season with a Fun-filled evening at Uncle Paul's Christmas party in Constantia.
If asked to define "Uncle Paul's", many people would probably say that it is an interactive show, because the Christmas party takes the form of a concert, performed by Uncle Paul, Noddy, Big ears, Mr Plod and the naughty clowns. The magic started the second we stepped onto the tractors and headed up to the arena past the baboons (very exciting) and saw the little castle. The children and adults played in the straw and there was lots of raucous laughter when a well aimed handful of hay hit an unsuspecting volunteer.
One of the many highlights for the children was the arrival of the marching band. The children followed them around the arena, singing and clapping along to the tune and were so happy when they were allowed to get some band experience and try to play the instruments them selves. Then Noddy made an appearance with his friends, bringing Ice creams for everyone.
After the ice creams were quickly devoured, the children played around and then we settled down to eat our supper- a bit backwards (dessert then dinner) but what a treat! Uncle Paul led us through the Christmas Carols to the piano song of Beth and the children sang along until Silent Night and the arrival of the little fairy. After Father Christmas made his theatrical appearance atop the castle, the children were all given a present and a little pack of sweeties from the fairy.
A huge thank you to all of our volunteers for looking after the children and to all of Wynberg Rotaracts volunteers for putting on such a wonderful evening and a great event!
