In the middle of the winter, on a grey and gloomy day Sisanda FunDaytion was having fun with 40 boys and girls between the ages of 4 and 11 years from Izandla Zethemba in Thambo Village between Manenburg and Gugulethu. Izandla Zethemba “Hands of Hope” AIDS Project (IZAP) aims to bring hope amidst the devastating impact of HIV/AIDS through a community driven approach, where the poor uplift the destitute. Their children’s program is an integral part of the community and is closely linked to the Community Church. IZAP children’s program has been running for 3 years and now helps over 120 children.
We started the morning off rotating through 4 creative and energetic stations in the Khanyisa Community Centre. The children made pictures and decorated the frames, dressed up for drama, played games including twister and charades, painted each other's faces (and the volunteers too) and settled down with a story or two. After a delicious lunch at the Spur, we headed off to the SAN Circus where the laughter on the children's faces brightened up everyone's winter.
