Connecting children and volunteers through a full day of new experiences.

Since 2009 and we have been creating monthly EXPLOSIONS of fun!!! Children and volunteers from different backgrounds and cultures are united through Play, Fun and New experiences, enabling the breakdown of preconceived prejudices and barriers and a chance to explore the world.

A full day experience in areas of natural beauty or at locations that are generally difficult for many children to access. We include visits to cultural events and unique places of interest.
Fun Days are always entertaining, inspirational, and educational. We want to enable children to try something new and.

Children’s home, community centres and NGO’s work with us to identify children who would benefit from a day out. Bringing the fun to children in convalescent homes and hospitals has also bought a smile to many children’s faces.

Volunteers are 16 and over, sign up on our database and sign police declarations for child protection. Detailed information on the Fun Day and their role is provided before and during a morning briefing. Volunteers need to arrange their own transport to and from the location which changes every Fun Day but is within Cape Town.   Volunteers are partnered with 2 children to support, have fun and create

I think Sisanda is an amazing organisation that gifts valuable experience for both children and volunteers

It gave the children a new and memorable experience new friends (socialise) and a fun breather from everyday life.

I believe this gave the children a chance to forget about their problems for a few hours. It allowed them to explore and not to be surrounded by stress

It changed how I view the things I have. I have so much to be grateful for.

Connecting primary school children and secondary school volunteers for a day of fun and peer learning

A mini FunDay, planned by senior school volunteers, to connect with, entertain and inspire primary school children. This provides a fun learning environment, within the senior school grounds, for both teens and children to share skills and interests and to learn from and about each other.

The younger learners get to engage with positive role models while the older learners gaining leadership skills and the experience of active citizenship.

We have worked with Wynberg Girls High School, Bishops, Hershel
And Capricorn primary.

Secondary Pupils Involved CONNECT

Yes! I was always aware of the hardships that many South Africans face but this SF programme provided a different perspective to that by allowing us to engage with young children who live difficult lives. It really opens your eyes when you can sit face to face with someone and hear their story. It has made me become a more socially aware individual and my involvement with SF actually sparked my interest in my career choice ( primary school teaching). Working with SF has shown me how important it is for me to use my privilege to help others and how important it is to allow children the simple pleasure of playing and fun. -

Being involved in Sisanda has definitely boosted my confidence with public speaking and it has made me more socially aware of what is happening in South Africa and how important it is to try and make a difference.

My involvement with SF has definitely taught me many things such as how to interact well with young children as a result of my role as a volunteer and my role as a leader has taught me how to plan events (which I love!)

Head Teacher of Primary School:

CONNECT Outings excites the children and teaches them to aspire towards something.

I believe the priority for children is to learn social engagement, basic humanity, self esteem and how to communicate.  Grade 3 to 10 is very impressionable and they usually react by being abrasive. In their homes they observe no respect, drunkenness.

Outings enable incidental learnings, they teach children how to be human. They get to interact with someone new like a mentor (big bother/big sister) and  they learn how to interact. They learn how they can hold themselves in a different context, this grows their confidence.

Head of Interact Primary School:

Our learners absolutely LOVE Sisanda CONNECT days! They learn skills how to plan events, timetable the events. During the events, I think it is a huge revelation to some of our learners. They realise that there is a world beyond their communities that is so different to what they know.

I have observed my learners grow to love service-related activities and that their awareness of the diversity (an inequalities) within South Africa. They get excited to help and assist, they get excited to form a relationship with a younger child and develop a sense of ‘adultness’ and independence.
